New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has directed authorities to take strict action against illegal constructions following the collapse of a PG building in Satya Niketan that killed seven people.
Gupta has asked the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to inspect illegal PG hostels across the city. Senior officials will remain present at sites during enforcement action, according to the report.
The MCD has also begun demolishing structures near the collapsed PG building in Satya Niketan. Some of the adjoining properties housed girls’ PGs, prompting residents to vacate the premises and shift elsewhere.
By Tuesday, demolition action had been carried out against 24 properties, while seven illegal structures had been sealed.
The five-storey PG building in Satya Niketan collapsed on September 6, leaving seven people dead. Five people had been arrested in connection with the incident by Wednesday, according to the report.
