Delhi court issues bailable warrants against YouTuber Dhruv Rathee in defamation case

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Saturday issued bailable warrants against YouTuber Dhruv Rathee in a 2018 defamation case after a court official reported that his residence was locked when they went to serve a summons.

Judicial Magistrate Rahul Jain issued the warrants in a complaint filed by Vikas Pandey, a member of the BJP’s IT cell. Pandey had alleged that Rathee defamed him in a video uploaded to his YouTube channel. The court’s detailed order is awaited.

The next hearing in the case has been scheduled for October 31.

The latest action came days after the court issued fresh summons to Rathee on October 12. At the time, the court observed that the complainant had been trying for several years to serve the summons on the YouTuber.

The court had directed that the fresh summons be sent to Rathee’s residence in Gurugram, Haryana. The bailable warrants were issued after the court official reported that the residence was locked and the summons could not be served.
