Jalandhar: Former Punjab chief secretary and current Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) Anurag Verma appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at its Jalandhar office on Wednesday in connection with the Sunteс City case.
Verma reached the ED office at around 11.07 am, carrying a file of documents. He had earlier been summoned twice but sought additional time on both occasions to collect the documents required for the investigation.
The ED has summoned Verma for questioning in connection with alleged irregularities and violations of rules involving Sunteс City, Mohali, and Alts Space Builders Pvt Ltd.
At the time of the alleged irregularities under investigation, Verma was heading the Housing and Urban Development Department. The ED is examining his role in the matter. IAS officer Kanwalpreet Brar has also appeared before the agency twice in connection with the case.
The investigation is focused on whether rules were violated in matters relating to change of land use (CLU) and allegedly illegal layouts to benefit private developers.
The case also involves allegations that action under Section 90 of the Punjab Regional and Town Planning and Development Act was overlooked and proceedings were instead initiated under Section 85, allegedly providing relief to the developer.
The ED’s investigation is ongoing, and the allegations are yet to be established.
