New Delhi: Fresh clashes were reported in Connaught Place shortly after midnight on Wednesday as protests over the alleged NEET (UG) 2026 paper leak continued in the national capital.
According to reports, a section of the crowd allegedly targeted Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel and pelted stones at a police vehicle near Janpath, prompting a fresh security response.
Meanwhile, the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) announced that protesters would no longer raise the slogan “Azadi” during demonstrations. Party spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka said participants would instead chant “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.” He said India had already attained independence through the sacrifices of freedom fighters such as Bhagat Singh and Mahatma Gandhi.
A day after the protests, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said those responsible for the alleged NEET paper leak would not be spared and would face the maximum punishment permitted under the law. Speaking publicly on the issue for the first time since the agitation began, the Prime Minister said the paper leak was not a partisan issue and should not be politicised.
Following the violence during the CJP demonstrations, Delhi Police registered 10 FIRs at different police stations in connection with the clashes.
A CJP spokesperson said Union Minister J.P. Nadda had invited the organisation’s representatives for a meeting at 12 noon, but added that the minister should instead visit the protest site.
As Parliament reconvened on Wednesday, the Centre told the Lok Sabha that it was ready to hold a discussion on the NEET paper leak issue. The government requested Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to convene a meeting of all political parties to decide the rules, date and duration of the debate.
