Gurdaspur: Three people, including two women, were injured after two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants allegedly hurled two grenades at a house in border village Jatta on Thursday night.
According to preliminary information, the attackers targeted the house of Nirmal Singh, a former Army personnel, at around 8:45 pm. The first grenade reportedly hit a Swift car parked inside the premises, causing extensive damage.
The second grenade landed in the courtyard, seriously injuring Nirmal Singh’s 30-year-old son Jaspal Singh, his wife Manpreet Kaur, and Nirmal Singh’s daughter, who was staying at her parental home.
The blast triggered panic in the village, with residents rushing to the spot after hearing the explosion. The injured were taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police scan CCTV footage
Nirmal Singh told police that he had no suspicion about anyone and had no known enmity with anyone. He said the attackers arrived on a motorcycle and had covered their faces.
Police teams reached the spot and launched an investigation. CCTV footage from the village is being examined to identify the attackers and establish their route.
Police are also looking into the possibility of a connection with gangster Happy Passia, as his native village is reportedly located nearby. However, no link has been established so far.
