Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has strongly criticised Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for allegedly referring to his turban as “fake”, calling the remark highly unfortunate.
Speaking to the media on Monday night, Saini said the turban was a symbol of respect, faith and devotion towards the Sikh Gurus and represented a sacred tradition bestowed by them.
He said his government was being run in accordance with the teachings and principles of the Gurus. Saini added that if Mann had described his turban as “fake”, he should apologise before the Sikh Gurus.
Taking further aim at the Punjab chief minister, Saini said the choice of words had hurt the sentiments of people in Punjab.
“By making such remarks, Mann has insulted the people of Punjab,” Saini said, demanding that the Punjab chief minister apologise to both the Sikh Gurus and the people of the state.
Saini also invoked the sacrifices of the Sikh Gurus, saying the position people hold today was possible because of their great sacrifices.
