New Delhi: Preparations have been completed for the INDIA opposition bloc’s rally at Ramlila Maidan on Sunday, where opposition leaders plan to protest against alleged electoral irregularities and demand the resignation of chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Political leaders and supporters from several states have begun arriving in the national capital for the gathering, titled ‘Delhi Chalo’. Political parties, student organisations and civil society groups are expected to participate.
The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), founded by Abhijit Deepke, has also extended its support to the campaign and reiterated its demand for the chief election commissioner’s resignation.
The march is scheduled to begin from Minto Road around midday and conclude at Ramlila Maidan, where the rally is planned from 10 am to 5 pm. A large tent in the colours of the Indian national flag has been erected at the venue.
INDIA bloc leaders have claimed that around one million people could attend the rally, while the Delhi Police estimates the turnout at approximately 50,000.
More than 4,000 police personnel will be deployed to manage security and crowds. Over 200 CCTV cameras and drones will be used for surveillance, according to the report.
Traffic restrictions are also expected in several parts of Delhi on Sunday. Commuters have been advised to use alternative routes to avoid congestion around the rally venue and along the march route.
