Ranchi: Student protests over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations in Jharkhand are continuing to intensify, with protesting leaders accusing the state government of making misleading claims about the demands raised by students.
Addressing a press conference in Ranchi, a student leader claimed that the government was wrongly stating that it had fulfilled 98% of the students’ demands. According to the protesters, students had sought the cancellation of 13 examinations, but the government had cancelled only three of them.
The student leader said a CBI investigation was necessary to uncover alleged irregularities in the recruitment examination system. The protesters alleged that the government was insisting on a CID inquiry instead, and questioned whether such an investigation would adequately address their concerns.
The students said their larger objective was to eliminate what they described as a system in which government jobs were allegedly being “sold” in Jharkhand.
Students call for Assembly march
The student leader maintained that the agitation was peaceful and non-violent and said protesters would not allow any anti-social elements to disrupt their democratic movement.
As part of the next phase of the agitation, students across Jharkhand have been urged to gather in large numbers on Monday and participate in a Vidhan Sabha March.
The protesters are demanding greater accountability in recruitment examinations and a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities.
