Nabha: Lakha Sidhana and Mohanjit Singh Sheron were released from Nabha jail at around 6 pm on Thursday, following a meeting between the Punjab government and the protest committee.
Hundreds of youths gathered outside the jail to welcome the two leaders. They were presented with siropas (robes of honour) and showered with flowers following their release.
Speaking to the media, Sidhana and Sheron said they had no information about developments involving the protest, the family of Parvinder Singh Jhotta and the government during their time in custody. They said they would head directly to the protest site.
Earlier, a Mansa court had ordered their immediate release after they were arrested by Mansa police. The court directed the superintendent of New Nabha Jail to release them without delay.
Sidhana and Sheron were arrested following a dispute in Mansa over the handling of Daljit Singh’s body. Police had registered a case against them under several serious charges, including attempt to murder. They were initially remanded in police custody before being sent to judicial custody.
