London: An Asian supermarket in Romford, east London, has gone viral after footage appeared to show men and women forming separate queues during a recent promotional sale.
Videos from Masala Bazaar showed large numbers of shoppers waiting to collect cooking oil as the supermarket marked its third anniversary.
The footage showed men queuing on one side of aisles lined with chest freezers, while women and children appeared to be waiting on the other side.
On August 28, shoppers were handed bottles of vegetable oil at the supermarket, which specialises in halal meat and South Asian ingredients and has branches across the UK.
In the days that followed, similar queues formed as staff distributed what appeared to be meat joints and frozen fish. The queues were again largely divided by gender.
The store manager told the Daily Mail that customers had been asked to form queues, but staff could not control how shoppers arranged themselves. He said people had automatically started queuing with men on one side and women on the other, but the arrangement lasted only about a minute before everyone joined the same queue.
