Phagwara: The situation outside Lovely Professional University (LPU) turned tense on Sunday evening as a protest by students escalated into a confrontation with police.
According to information from the spot, protesting students allegedly pelted stones at police personnel, following which the police resorted to a lathi-charge to disperse the protesters.
The vehicle of SSP Gaurav Toora was reportedly vandalised during the incident. There were also reports that three other police vehicles were set on fire.
The situation remained tense at the site as police attempted to bring the situation under control. Some police personnel were also reported to have sustained injuries during the clashes.
