New Delhi: Opposition parties, led by the Congress, staged a fresh protest in Parliament on Wednesday by wearing black attire and intensifying their attack on the Centre over the alleged use of force against students and Members of Parliament during recent demonstrations.
Congress MPs submitted notices in both Houses seeking a discussion on the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak, the police action against protesting students and the wider examination crisis.
In the Rajya Sabha, Congress MP Dr Syed Naseer Hussain moved a notice under Rule 267, seeking suspension of the day’s business to discuss what he described as a “systemic crisis” in India’s examination system.
In his notice, Hussain cited the cancellation of NEET-UG 2026 following allegations of a large-scale paper leak, repeated leaks in recruitment examinations, alleged irregularities in the CBSE on-screen marking system, reported student suicides linked to NEET, and the alleged use of force against student protesters. He also called for an urgent discussion on reforms to restore public confidence in the country’s examination, evaluation and recruitment systems.
In the Lok Sabha, Congress MP Hibi Eden submitted an adjournment motion seeking a discussion on the police action against students protesting near Parliament on July 20. Senior Congress leader K.C. Venugopal also filed a similar notice demanding a debate on the alleged NEET-UG paper leak and the reported police baton charge on demonstrators at Jantar Mantar.
The coordinated parliamentary action came as Opposition MPs arrived in black clothing to register their protest, accusing the Centre of using excessive force against students demanding accountability in the examination system and alleging that lawmakers were also subjected to rough treatment during the demonstrations.
