Mansa: Nearly 23 days after Parvinder Singh Jhotta’s death, his body was sent to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh for a post-mortem examination following an agreement between his family and members of the action committee.
The body was transported from the Civil Hospital in Mansa shortly before midnight on Thursday.
The transfer had earlier been delayed despite preparations being completed. Members of the action committee had maintained that Jhotta’s body would not be taken to Chandigarh until the cases registered in connection with the matter were withdrawn.
Protesters raised slogans during the demonstration. Following an agreement, prayers were offered before the body was placed in an ambulance and sent to Chandigarh.
Meanwhile, Lakhha Sidhana and Mohanjit Singh Sheron, who were released from Nabha jail, along with other youths released from Bathinda jail, reached the Civil Hospital in Mansa.
Mansa civil surgeon Dr Ranjit Singh Rai said the body would be dispatched as soon as an agreement was reached between the action committee and family members. Special CBI officials were also present at the hospital to receive the body.
Lakhha Sidhana, Mohanjit Sheron released
In another significant development, the Mansa court had issued release warrants for Lakhha Sidhana and Mohanjit Singh Sheron. Both were subsequently released from jail.
Their release had been among the key demands raised during the ongoing agitation seeking justice for Jhotta.
The post-mortem examination at PGIMER is expected to provide further information about the circumstances and cause of Parvinder Singh Jhotta’s death.
