PM Modi announces Nandan Nilekani-led task force to overhaul examination system

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday announced the formation of a high-powered task force under the leadership of Nandan Nilekani to recommend reforms aimed at strengthening India’s examination system and preventing future paper leak incidents.

In a video message shared on Instagram at around 7 pm, the Prime Minister said the government had been taking continuous steps to safeguard the future of students.

“Those who played with the future of students are now behind bars,” Modi said, adding that the government had already established fast-track courts to ensure the speedy trial of cases related to examination malpractice.

He also said the government would introduce legislation in Parliament to provide for stricter punishment for those involved in paper leak cases.

Highlighting the need for long-term reforms, Modi said the examination system must become more reliable and transparent, with greater use of technology to eliminate irregularities.

The Prime Minister said the Nandan Nilekani-led high-powered task force would focus on comprehensive examination reforms and recommend measures to modernise and strengthen the country’s assessment framework.
