Protesters detained near Delhi’s Bangla Sahib Gurudwara, sparks row

New Delhi: Tension prevailed near Bangla Sahib Gurudwara in Delhi on Saturday as police detained several people who had arrived to participate in a protest called by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Videos of the incident surfaced on social media, showing police personnel detaining protesters near the gurdwara.

According to media reports, some protesters entered the gurdwara and sought refuge inside to avoid being detained. Police personnel and central security forces remained deployed outside the religious complex.

Police also reportedly asked protesters not to raise political slogans inside the gurdwara.

The CJP had called for a demonstration at Jantar Mantar to demand Kumar’s resignation and protest alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

However, Delhi Police had denied permission for the proposed demonstration, citing concerns related to security, traffic and law and order.
