Chandigarh: Doctors, pharmacists and nurses working at Aam Aadmi Clinics across Punjab will begin an indefinite statewide strike from August 25, the Aam Aadmi Clinic Association said on Monday.
Association state leader Gurpreet Kaur said the staff had earlier observed a one-day strike over their demands. The protest was withdrawn after the Health Department assured them that their concerns would be addressed.
However, the association had warned that if its demands were not fulfilled by August 24, the staff would begin an indefinite strike from August 25. Kaur said the deadline has now passed without the demands being addressed, prompting the association to announce a complete boycott of work.
Staff seek regularisation of services
According to Kaur, the main demand is regularisation of their services. She said the staff were recruited after fulfilling conditions similar to those applicable to regular employees and therefore should be granted regular status.
She added that representatives have submitted memorandums to Punjab Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh several times, but no concrete action was taken on their demands.
The association has therefore decided to proceed with the statewide indefinite strike from August 25.
