Chandigarh: The Punjab government has transferred the latest instalment of financial assistance under the ‘Mawan-Dhiyan Satkar Yojana’ to 5.30 lakh women, taking the total number of beneficiaries under the scheme to 70.92 lakh.
At a state-level event held at Baba Bakala Sahib on Friday, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced the direct transfer of ₹181.50 crore, covering three months of the ‘Satkar Rashi’, into the bank accounts of the newly included beneficiaries.
The government has set a target of extending the scheme to 1 crore women across Punjab.
₹51 crore paid to ‘Satkar Sakhis’
According to the figures shared, 1.38 lakh ‘Satkar Sakhis’ who helped women register for the scheme have so far received ₹51 crore in honorarium. The government will also release ₹25 crore to Anganwadi workers.
With the current level of registration, the scheme is expected to cost the state around ₹10,492.80 crore annually, or approximately ₹874.40 crore per month.
Registration for the scheme has reached 75.50 lakh women, while the initial estimate was that around 90 lakh women would benefit. The pace of fresh registrations has slowed considerably in August.
Under the scheme, women from the general category receive ₹1,000 per month, while women from the Dalit community receive ₹1,500 per month as ‘Satkar Rashi’.
