Chandigarh: The Punjab government has decided to implement a “no work, no pay” policy against employees participating in the ongoing strike, as government offices across the state remained largely paralysed on Tuesday.
The move came after government employees decided to continue their “pen-down strike” until September 11, prompting the AAP-led government to prepare a tougher response. The employees were observing the second phase of their agitation on Tuesday.
According to Punjab government sources, salaries will be withheld for employees who remain absent from work as part of the strike.
The government had earlier issued show-cause notices to employees following a mass leave on August 27. In the second phase of its action, the government transferred senior Joint Coordination Committee leader Sukhchain Singh Khehra.
The government subsequently announced a hike in DA to 60% for employees recruited after July 2020.
On Monday, Punjab also transferred employees’ organisation president Sushil Kumar Fauji. Soon afterwards, cabinet minister Aman Arora warned that the government would take action according to law if the strike caused inconvenience to the public.
By late Tuesday evening, the state government formally adopted the “no work, no pay” approach amid the continuing employees’ agitation.
