Chandigarh: The Punjab government has issued a show-cause notice to Language Department director Jaswant Zafar over alleged irregularities in the department’s recruitment process.
The notice was issued by the Administrative Secretary of the Department of Higher Education and Languages, seeking an explanation from Zafar. Following the notice, the director has reportedly expressed strong displeasure over the action.
The recruitment of 42 research assistants in the Language Department has remained controversial for some time and the matter has also reached the court. Complaints submitted to the Punjab government alleged that eligibility criteria were changed during the recruitment process and that reservation rules were not followed.
The complaints affected the recruitment process, which has yet to reach a conclusion.
Sunali Giri, Administrative Secretary of the Department of Higher Education and Languages, told media that irregularities had occurred in the recruitment process, including improper implementation of reservation provisions and violations of roster rules.
She said the recruitment process had been initiated earlier, but was subsequently taken forward under the current director. Giri also objected that Zafar had repeatedly failed to attend meetings despite being called to them.
