Rahul Gandhi reviews Punjab election preparations, likely visit in September

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday held a meeting with AICC general secretary in-charge of Punjab affairs Bhupesh Baghel to discuss the political situation in Punjab, particularly preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections.

Congress leader and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi was also present at the meeting, according to party sources.

Punjab visit likely in early September

Sources familiar with the meeting said the leaders also discussed plans for Rahul Gandhi’s proposed visit to Punjab in the first week of September.

The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee has been asked to prepare a detailed proposal outlining the programme for the Gandhi family’s visit.

The proposed itinerary includes a visit to the Golden Temple in Amritsar, followed by a Congress-led bus yatra aimed at mobilising party workers and strengthening preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections.

Baghel said after the meeting that the exact date of Rahul Gandhi’s visit has not yet been finalised.

Party sources said the proposed visit has now been pushed back by around a week from an earlier plan to hold it during the final days of August.
