New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has urged people travelling to Delhi for the INDIA bloc’s rally against alleged electoral irregularities on Sunday to support local businesses by shopping from small traders during the festive season.
In a video message shared on X, Rahul said people from different parts of the country were arriving in the capital to participate in the rally and march at Ramlila Maidan. He noted that the visit coincided with the festive period of Diwali, Chhath and Bhai Dooj, and encouraged participants to purchase goods from local shops.
Rahul said people could take part in the political programme while also helping small traders benefit from the increased footfall. He alleged that the BJP was spreading rumours that the rally would hurt businesses, claiming that the opposition’s programme would not adversely affect local trade.
The INDIA bloc has planned a march from Minto Road to Ramlila Maidan, followed by a rally. Leaders and supporters of opposition parties from different states are expected to attend, along with representatives of student organisations and civil society groups.
The alliance has also appealed to students, young people, women, workers and social organisations to join the protest.
The rally is being held against alleged electoral irregularities, with opposition parties also demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
