Chandigarh: The suspense over Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s proposed Punjab visit has ended, with Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring confirming that Gandhi will visit the state soon.
Warring said Rahul Gandhi’s security team has cleared the proposed visit and is now working on the dates. The schedule will be announced once the security team completes its planning.
The clarification comes amid speculation within a section of the Punjab Congress that Gandhi’s proposed bus yatra in the state could be postponed.
Three plans under consideration
Punjab Congress has submitted three proposals for Rahul Gandhi’s visit.
Under the first proposal, Gandhi would undertake a two-day bus yatra, beginning from the Golden Temple and covering several districts, including Tarn Taran, Ferozepur and parts of Malwa on the first day. The journey would then continue from Ludhiana and conclude at Fatehgarh Sahib on the second day.
The second proposal seeks four days, covering the Malwa, Doaba and Majha regions.
The third proposal seeks six days, with three days planned for Malwa and the remaining time divided between Doaba and Majha.
However, Warring said Rahul Gandhi’s team has not yet finalised any of the three proposals.
Warring targets Randhawa over ‘compromised leaders’ remarks
Warring also hit out at Congress leader Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, who has repeatedly raised the issue of “compromised leaders” within the party.
Warring said Randhawa had previously spoken about a “sleeper cell” in the Congress and had suggested raising the issue with Rahul Gandhi. He alleged that some leaders meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
Warring referred to Ravneet Singh Bittu and Sunil Jakhar while making the remarks and said he would ask Randhawa directly about the leaders he considers “compromised”, particularly after Randhawa’s recent meeting with Amit Shah.
