Chandigarh: Senior Congress MLA and former Punjab minister Rana Gurjeet Singh has dismissed speculation about leaving the party, saying he would remain a Congressman throughout his life.
“I am a born Congressman and will die as a Congressman,” Rana Gurjeet Singh said, responding to reports suggesting that a prominent Congress leader from the Doaba region might quit the party.
The speculation emerged after former Congress MLA Raminder Singh Awla joined the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in the presence of party president Sukhbir Singh Badal. Awla’s move fuelled unverified reports that another senior Congress leader from the region could follow suit.
Reacting to the reports, Rana Gurjeet Singh urged media organisations to exercise responsibility and verify information before publishing it.
He said his family had longstanding ties with the Congress and ruled out any possibility of leaving the party.
