Rapido’s licence restored in Chandigarh

Chandigarh: Rapido’s aggregator licence was restored in Chandigarh on Tuesday, allowing the ride-hailing platform to continue its services in the city. The company has claimed that it is currently the only platform operating in Chandigarh with a valid licence.

According to a company statement, Rapido had appealed against an order issued by the State Transport Authority. After hearing the appeal, the transport secretary, acting as the appellate authority, gave all parties an opportunity to present their arguments before ruling in the company’s favour and restoring its licence.

The decision comes after aggregator licences of several major platforms operating in Chandigarh were suspended between June and August. The restoration will allow Rapido to continue providing its services to passengers across the city.

The company said the decision would ensure continued access to convenient and affordable transport options for residents while preserving earning opportunities for drivers associated with the platform.

Company pledges compliance with regulations

Welcoming the decision, Sunil Shah, Rapido’s director of operations, thanked the Chandigarh administration for ensuring a fair and detailed hearing.

Shah said the restoration of the licence reinforced the company’s commitment to complying with applicable regulations. He added that Rapido would continue working with the Chandigarh administration and other stakeholders to meet the city’s transport needs and provide affordable services.
