Mohali: The player auction for the inaugural Sher-e-Punjab T20 League was held on Sunday, with six franchise teams competing for players ahead of the tournament’s first season.
Players with Indian Premier League experience also attracted significant interest. Sanvir Singh emerged as the most expensive player of the auction after Fazilka Falcons bought him for ₹13.20 lakh, against a base price of ₹1.50 lakh.
Naman Dhir was another major buy, with Amritsar Surmaaj securing his services for ₹10 lakh. Salil Arora, who has featured in the IPL, was bought by Ludhiana Lions for ₹8.20 lakh, while his base price was ₹1.50 lakh.
Former Punjab Kings player Harpreet Brar was picked by Mohali Kings for ₹4 lakh. Meanwhile, 21-year-old Amanjot Singh joined Jalandhar Warriors for his base price of ₹1.50 lakh.
Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill have been assigned a fixed price of ₹10 lakh and were therefore not part of the bidding process.
Six teams to feature in first season
The PCA has announced six city-based teams for the inaugural edition of the league. Each franchise can have between 16 and 20 players in its squad.
According to PCA president Amarjeet Singh Mehta, the league is intended to provide a bigger platform to Punjab’s emerging cricketers. Around 120 young players are expected to get an opportunity through the tournament.
The competition will feature 27 matches, with games scheduled to be played at the PCA International Cricket Stadium in Mohali/New Chandigarh.
The first edition of the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League is scheduled to begin on August 30, 2026.
