New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed Smriti Mandhana as the new captain of the Indian women’s cricket team.
Mandhana will take over from Harmanpreet Kaur, who announced her decision to step down from captaincy across all three formats earlier on Tuesday.
The BCCI said Mandhana will lead the Indian women’s team in both One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and T20 Internationals.
Mandhana has been part of the Indian team since 2013 and brings considerable leadership experience from international, domestic and franchise cricket.
According to the BCCI, she has previously captained India in 18 T20 Internationals and four ODIs.
Harmanpreet’s decision brings an end to her tenure as India’s captain, while Mandhana now takes charge of the team in the two limited-overs formats.
