Two killed, one injured in firing over land dispute in Tarn Taran

Tarn Taran: Two people were killed and another was seriously injured after a long-standing land dispute between two groups turned violent in Pahuwind village near Bhikhiwind in Tarn Taran district on Saturday afternoon.

According to preliminary information, tension had been continuing between the families of Sukhraj Singh alias Raju, 55, and former village sarpanch Amarjeet Singh over the ownership of a piece of land.

Two killed in gunfire

The two groups reportedly confronted each other near a motor in the fields, following which firing broke out.

Sukhraj Singh was shot dead at the spot, while his son Gurnoor Singh sustained serious injuries. From the other side, Nirmal Singh, 63, was also hit by multiple bullets. He was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Gurnoor Singh is undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.

Police begin investigation

Following the incident, DSP Bhikhiwind Atul Soni and police teams reached the village and took both bodies into custody.

Police said legal proceedings have been initiated and teams have been formed to trace and arrest those involved in the firing. The bodies will undergo post-mortem examination on Sunday morning.

Additional security measures have been put in place in the village to maintain law and order following the incident.
