18 BJP MLAs suspended for six months in Karnataka Assembly

New Delhi: The Karnataka Assembly witnessed chaos on Friday as BJP legislators protested against the honey trap case and the four percent reservation for Muslims, shouting slogans inside the House.

On Monday, the Karnataka High Court suspended 18 BJP MLAs for six months on charges of indiscipline during the protest. Following the decision, marshals forcibly removed them from the House.

Speaker U T Khader took action against the legislators for disrupting proceedings, accusing them of disobeying his orders and behaving disrespectfully.

Karnataka Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H.K. Kumaraswamy was present when Minister Patil moved a resolution for their suspension, which was later passed by the Speaker.

According to the suspension order, the MLAs will be barred from entering the assembly hall, lobby, and gallery for six months. They will also be prohibited from attending standing committee meetings, listing any matters in the assembly agenda, and issuing any official instructions.

Additionally, they will not be allowed to vote in committee elections or receive a daily allowance during the suspension period.
