A 1-litre bottle of water contains some 2,40,000 plastic fragments: Study

New Delhi: It is effortless to purchase bottled water, easily accessible; however, a recent revelation casts a shocking light on it.

According to research, millions of pieces of plastic are present in bottled water, challenging the perception of its cleanliness. The water we consume, seemingly pure, might pose health risks.

This study, featured in the ‘Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences,’ discloses that an average liter water bottle contains around 240,000 pieces of plastic—100 times more than previous estimates.

Earlier studies only identified microplastics, fragments ranging from 1 to 5,000 micrometers. Notably, the research involved bottled water from three prominent companies, yet their names remain undisclosed.
