AAP MP Meet Hayer seeks restoration of 2.5% commission on wheat, paddy procurement
New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Lok Sabha MP from Sangrur, Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, on Thursday raised concerns over crop procurement during Zero Hour in Parliament.
He demanded that the commission for arhtiyas (commission agents) on wheat and paddy be restored to 2.5% of the minimum support price (MSP) and that special provisions be made to expedite the lifting of paddy from Punjab’s godowns.
Hayer pointed out that until 2019-20, arhtiyas received a 2.5% commission on MSP, but the central government later fixed it at Rs 46 per quintal. Despite rising inflation, this rate has remained unchanged, leading to protests by arhtiyas in the past, which directly affected crop procurement in Punjab.
He urged the government to address these issues promptly to ensure a smooth procurement process.
