Accused of rape, hockey player Varun Kumar takes urgent leave to fight legal battle

New Delhi: Punjab’s Arjuna Awardee hockey Olympian Varun has taken urgent leave after he was booked by the police in a rape case.

Varun has written a letter to Hockey India President Dilip Turky about this and also clarified about the girl who filed the rape case.

Varun said that he was in a relationship with the girl. The girl’s parents and sister, who are posted in Telangana Police, have taken advantage of this and filed a rape case against her. Apart from this, Varun has also withdrawn from the FIH Pro-League to be held in Bhubaneswar.

Two days before the rape case was registered against Varun, he received the appointment letter of DSP in Punjab Police, which was handed over to him by Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann in Chandigarh.
