Arvind Kejriwal calls urgent meeting of Punjab MLAs after Delhi poll defeat
New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal has summoned Punjab MLAs for an urgent meeting following the party’s defeat in the Delhi elections.
The meeting is scheduled for February 11 at 11 am at Kapurthala Bhawan in Delhi, with all MLAs and ministers directed to cancel prior engagements. The agenda remains undisclosed.
Sources indicate that the Punjab Cabinet meeting, initially set for February 10, has been rescheduled to February 13, reportedly due to the Delhi meeting.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who returned from Delhi today, has not commented on the reason for the postponement.
Kejriwal also met with 22 newly elected MLAs from Delhi today. Earlier, there was speculation that he might visit Chandigarh to address Punjab MLAs directly, amid criticism from opposition parties over their frequent trips to Delhi. However, the meeting will now take place in the capital.
AAP faces growing challenges following its electoral setback, with concerns over internal stability. Kejriwal’s defeat has raised questions about his leadership, and the party is assessing political reactions in Punjab post-elections.
Meanwhile, the BJP has signaled its intent to target Punjab in the 2027 elections.
In light of the Delhi meeting, Punjab MLAs and ministers have cleared their schedules for February 11. Meetings of Punjab Vidhan Sabha committees have also been postponed.
Speculation is rife that the gathering will focus on maintaining party unity and reinforcing trust among members.
