Blasts in Chandigarh ahead of PM’s visit: Bombs hurled outside two clubs
Chandigarh: Days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Chandigarh on December 3, two blasts occurred early Tuesday morning outside the Seville Bar and Lounge and D’Or Club in Sector 26. The explosions shattered glass at the clubs, prompting an immediate response from law enforcement.
Media reports indicate that Seville Bar and Lounge is partly owned by popular rapper Badshah. Senior police officials, including SSP Kanwardeep Kaur, and a forensic team reached the scene to collect evidence.
Initial investigations revealed that the bombs, believed to be crude devices filled with nails and inflammable materials, were thrown by two youths who arrived on a bike.
CCTV footage captured the incident at 3:15 a.m., showing a suspect hurling a bomb-like object towards one of the clubs, followed by a loud explosion and smoke. The suspect fled the scene immediately after.
DSP Dilbag Singh confirmed that police were alerted to the incident around 3:25 a.m. “Our investigating officer reached the spot promptly. SSP Kanwardeep Kaur has directed the Operation Cell, Crime Branch, and other units to expedite the arrest of the culprits,” he stated.
Police are also investigating a possible extortion angle. Items linked to the bombs have been recovered from the site, and further investigations are underway.
