Boat capsizes in Jhelum river near Srinagar, many feared missing

Srinagar: Several people are missing after a boat capsized in the Jhelum river near Srinagar. The State Disaster Relief Force has launched a rescue operation for the missing passengers, officials said.

The water level of river Jhelum has risen due to heavy rains in the region in the last few days.

The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed for traffic on Monday after a landslide triggered by heavy rains in the Jhelum river as the water level in the river remained high.

Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police said that NH-44 has been blocked due to a massive landslide in Kishtwari Pather. People in this area are advised to avoid travel.
