Budget 2024: Finance Minister announces several schemes to boost employment, to give EPFO up to Rs 15,000 on new job
New Delhi: After the formation of the new government, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is presenting the budget in Parliament today. This is her seventh consecutive budget as Finance Minister.
Sitharaman said that the government’s focus will be on the poor, women, youth, and farmers, and that it will work to increase job opportunities. She said that young people will receive Rs 15,000 directly in their EPFO accounts upon obtaining their first jobs.
The Finance Minister first met with officials from her ministry and then with President Droupadi Murmu. Following these meetings, she proceeded to Parliament House, where the Cabinet approved the budget.
In this budget, women, youth, and farmers may receive relief. Both houses of Parliament — the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha — have been allocated 20 hours each to discuss the budget.
The Business Advisory Committee of the Lok Sabha has decided to discuss issues related to ministries including railways, education, health, MSME, and food processing, among others.
A total of 20 hours has been allotted for the debate on the Union Budget. Sources said that the Business Advisory Committee (BAC), which includes representatives from various parties, set the agenda for the session.
Some opposition members requested a discussion on various issues. They stated that the demand for grants from five ministries will allow for discussions on various matters related to them.
