Centre provides Z-category VIP security cover to Chief Election Commissioner
New Delhi: The Central government has given Z-category VIP security of armed commandos to Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar in view of possible threats.
Sources said that the Union Home Ministry has ordered the deployment of a contingent of 40-45 CRPF personnel for security.
The move comes amid preparations for the seven-phase general elections beginning April 19.
Sources said armed commandos will accompany the CEC during his visit across the country. Rajiv Kumar is a retired IAS officer of the 1984 batch. He took over as the 25th CEC on 15 May 2022.
