Prominent builder and head of a gurdwara in Edmonton shot dead

Toronto: Buta Singh Gill, the head of the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Edmonton, Canada and a prominent builder of Punjabi origin, was shot dead multiple times at a construction site today.

Buta Singh was the owner of Gill Built Homes, a luxury home manufacturing company in Edmonton. Edmonton police confirmed that the 49-year-old and 57-year-old man died and the 51-year-old man was taken to hospital in critical condition. The injured has been identified as Sarabjit Singh, a civil engineer.

According to reports, a quarrel broke out at the construction site, which led to Gill and another person being shot dead by an Indian-origin construction worker.

The attacker later took his own life. Gill had earlier complained of extortion and threats, following which the police launched an investigation, the report said.
