New Delhi: Amid growing anger across the country over the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Congress MP and former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has stirred controversy by questioning the authenticity of India’s 2016 surgical strikes in Pakistan.

Channi said, “If a bomb falls in our country, we will not know about it. They say we carried out surgical strikes in Pakistan. Nothing happened, the surgical strike was nowhere to be seen, no one came to know about it.”

His remarks are being seen as a direct challenge to the Indian Army’s claims of crossing the Line of Control (LoC) in 2016 to destroy terror launch pads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The Army had then announced that the strikes were in response to the deadly Uri attack that killed 19 Indian soldiers.

Channi’s comments come at a time when national security and border tensions are dominating political discourse, and they are expected to further fuel the ongoing debate. Many have condemned the Congress leader’s statement, calling it disrespectful to the armed forces.

Public anger has intensified following the Pahalgam attack, with citizens demanding swift and strong retaliation from the government.
