Delhi riots case: Court acquits 11 accused
New Delhi: A Delhi court has acquitted 11 accused in the 2020 riots that broke out following violence between supporters of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and those opposing it in northeast Delhi.
Additional Sessions Judge of Police Tya Pramachala said the police had failed to prove all the charges beyond doubt in the case registered on the basis of a complaint by Naushad, a resident of Gokalpuri.
Those acquitted include Sumit, Ankit Chaudhary, Ashish Kumar, Saurabh Kaushik, Bhupinder, Shakti Singh, Pappu, Vijay, Sachin Kumar, Yogesh and Rahul. “I am of the view that the allegations levelled against the accused in this case have not been proved beyond all reasonable doubts and they are entitled to take advantage of all the doubts,” the judge said in the order passed on October 4.
Naushad had alleged that on February 25, 2020, at around 10 pm, the accused entered his house in Gokalpuri and looted him and set him on fire. At least 53 people were killed and around 200 injured in communal clashes during the riots.
