Farmers’ march to Delhi postponed for 2 days, farmers and trade unions angry after protester’s death

New Delhi: The farmers of Punjab have postponed their plan to hold a protest in Delhi for two days. This decision comes after a clash between the police and farmers at the Khanauri border in Haryana resulted in the death of a farmer.

The Farmers’ union has alleged that the farmer died during police action, although the Haryana Police denied this.

Punjab farmers will not attempt to march to Delhi for two days. The plan to march from Khanauri and Shambhu border has been postponed following the death of a farmer.

Shubhkaran Singh, son of Charanjit Singh from Ballo village, succumbed to severe head injuries, while dozens of other farmers were injured at the Khanauri and Shambhu borders.

A doctor at the Patiala hospital, where Shubh Karan Singh was taken, stated that he had been shot. The exact cause of death will be revealed only after the postmortem report is released.

Dr. Rekhi, senior medical officer of the hospital, said, “Three patients came to us from Khanauri, one of them was brought dead, while the condition of the other two is stable. It appears he was shot, but confirmation is pending.”

“As per the information received so far, no farmer has died today; it is just a rumor. The data includes two policemen and one protester who were injured and are currently undergoing treatment.”

Trade unions have also strongly condemned the brutal killing of the protesting young farmer and the injuries sustained by dozens. They have announced their intention to observe February 23 as Black Day throughout India.

The trade unions stated that they will wear black badges, protest at lunchtime, hold dharnas, take out processions, protest under torch/candlelight, and express their grievances over the cruel attitude of the central government towards the workers and farmers of the country.
