Former Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar takes over as Speaker of Madhya Pradesh Assembly
Senior BJP leader and former Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar was on Wednesday elected unopposed as the Speaker of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly.
The first session of the newly elected Madhya Pradesh Assembly will be held on Monday. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Wednesday moved a proposal to make 66-year-old Tomar the Speaker, which was seconded by Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar. Meanwhile, former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also proposed Tomar’s elevation as speaker, which was seconded by former Union minister Prahlad Patel.
Besides, five others moved resolutions in favour of Tomar, including opposition MLAs Ajay Singh, Jaivardhan Singh and Rajendra Kumar Singh. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav congratulated Tomar on becoming the Speaker and thanked the opposition leaders for electing the Speaker unopposed.
