Releasing today ‘Dunki’ film inspired by Jalandhar house, mentioning of Talhan Sahib Gurdwara in movie

Today ‘Dunki,’ movie of Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan’s third film of the year has released. Prior to this, Khan delivered record-breaking hits like ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Jawan.’ All preparations have been completed for the release of ‘Dunki.’
Director Rajkumar Hirani recently revealed in a video titled ‘Dunki Diaries,’ shared by Red Chillies Entertainment, that he drew inspiration from a unique design house in Jalandhar for the making of the film. He mentioned being influenced by a house in Jalandhar featuring an airplane on its roof with ‘Bada-2’ Air India markings, emphasizing that the photo showcased in the video was authentic and unaltered. Hirani detailed his astonishment at discovering several houses in Punjab displaying airplanes on their rooftops.
During his exploration, he learned about the cultural significance behind this phenomenon: when a family member travels abroad, particularly to countries like London, US, Canada and Australia, the family constructs an airplane replica atop their house to showcase the achievement.
Mentioning of Talhan Sahib Gurudwara of Jalandhar
In the ‘Dunki Diaries’ video shared by Red Chillies Entertainment, Shah Rukh Khan showcased images of Jalandhar’s Talhan Sahib Gurudwara, commonly referred to as the ‘Visa Gurudwara’. He explained that individuals used to visit this Gurudwara to place their passports, earning it the nickname ‘Visa Gurudwara.’ Additionally, miniature toy airplanes were sold outside these Gurudwaras, symbolizing the aspirational act of boarding a flight after receiving a visa.
However, a significant development occurred when the Gurudwara Administration Committee (SGPC) imposed a strict ban on this practice of symbolic boarding at the Gurudwara. This decision came following objections raised by the SGPC, leading to the discontinuation of this tradition.
