Governor vs Government: SC issues notice to Governor’s office over non-approval of bills
Punjab E News: The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Centre and the Governor’s Office over the non-approval of bills passed by the Kerala government. A bench headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud asked the Attorney General and the Solicitor General to be present in the court with facts during the next hearing. Now the next hearing will be on Friday 24 November.
The Kerala government accused Governor Arif Mohammed Khan of not taking any action on the bills passed by the assembly and accused him of suppressing important bills passed by the government. The state of Kerala, in its petition, has said that the governor’s conduct of keeping the bills pending for a long and indefinite period is manifestly arbitrary and also violates Article 14 (right to equality) of the Constitution.
The state government says that welfare bills have been passed by the assembly for the people of the state by the government. The governor not taking any action on these bills deprives the people of their rights.
