Gyanesh Kumar appointed as new Chief Election Commissioner

New Delhi: Gyanesh Kumar has been appointed as the new Chief Election Commissioner, according to the Law Ministry. A 1988-batch Kerala cadre IAS officer, Kumar has been serving as the Election Commissioner since March last year.

He will assume office following the retirement of current CEC Rajiv Kumar, who is set to retire on 18 February.

The Chief Election Commissioner is a key position within the Election Commission of India, responsible for overseeing elections across the country and ensuring their transparency and fairness.
