Home Ministry likely to issue CAA notification tonight

New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs may issue a notification regarding the CAA by tonight.

Sources said that the rules for the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 (CAA), brought in to give speedy citizenship to undocumented non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, will be issued before the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections comes into force.

The Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 seeks to grant Indian citizenship to Hindus, Jains, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists and Parsis who entered India from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan on or before December 31, 2014, after a five-year stay in India.
