We are spending Rs 6.5 lakh crore annually on country’s agriculture: PM Modi

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that his government is spending Rs 6.5 lakh crore annually for the agriculture sector and farmers. Modi claimed that the Centre was not only making hollow promises but also fulfilling them. This statement of the Prime Minister is being seen as a target on the election guarantees being given by the Congress party.
     Addressing the 17th Indian Co-operation Congress here, Modi asked the cooperative societies to become flag-bearers of social and national policy rather than politics.
    Calling upon them to become models of transparency and corruption-free governance, the Prime Minister said that cooperative societies should use digital devices on a large scale. Modi asked them to help make the country self-reliant in edible oils by stressing on increasing production of oilseeds and pulses.
The Prime Minister also enumerated the achievements of his government in the last nine years in agriculture and allied sectors. “The government is ensuring that every farmer in the country gets around Rs 50,000 per year. This means that under the BJP government at the Centre, every farmer is guaranteed rs 50,000 in some form or the other.
