Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh seeks court’s permission to attend parliament session

New Delhi: Amritpal Singh, Member of Parliament from Khadoor Sahib in Punjab, currently detained in Assam’s Dibrugarh jail under the National Security Act (NSA), has petitioned the Punjab and Haryana High Court to attend the Parliament session on January 26 and participate in Republic Day celebrations.

In his plea, Singh argued that his detention was politically motivated, aimed at curbing his rising popularity. He claimed that his absence from Parliament hindered the representation of his 19 lakh constituents.

Singh has been in detention since March 2023, following an order issued by the Deputy Magistrate of Amritsar, which has been repeatedly extended. The court is yet to deliver its decision on the matter.
