Mahua Moitra marries former BJD MP Pinaki Mishra in Germany

New Delhi: West Bengal’s outspoken MP from Krishnanagar, Mahua Moitra, is once again making headlines — this time for her personal life. Moitra tied the knot with Pinaki Mishra, a senior politician from Odisha and former BJD MP, in a private ceremony held on May 30 in Germany.

Speculations about their relationship had been circulating for some time. The two leaders were spotted together in London last year, and a photograph of their meeting went viral on social media, sparking discussions about their closeness.

Pinaki Mishra, a three-time MP from Puri, is a prominent figure in Odisha’s political and legal circles. An alumnus of Delhi University’s prestigious St. Stephen’s College, Mishra is also a seasoned Supreme Court lawyer.

He first entered Parliament in 1996 as a Congress MP before joining the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), under which he won the Puri seat in 2009, 2014, and 2019.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he gained national attention by defeating BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra. However, in 2024, BJD chief Naveen Patnaik dropped Mishra and instead fielded former Mumbai Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik from Puri.

With Mishra stepping away from active politics, the seat saw a reversal, and Sambit Patra secured a win, bringing the BJP back into a constituency long held by the BJD.
