MLA slaps voter, he retaliates at polling booth in Andhra polling; video goes viral
New Delhi: The fourth phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections is proceeding smoothly, with a high level of enthusiasm among both voters and candidates.
However, amidst this, a video depicting a disturbance at a polling booth in Andhra Pradesh has gone viral. The video captures an MLA slapping a voter who had come to cast his vote, resulting in a subsequent altercation.
The incident took place in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, where YSR Congress Party MLA Shiv Kumar confronted a voter outside a polling booth and slapped him. In response, the voter retaliated, leading to further violence as the MLA’s associates joined in and assaulted the voter.
Reports suggest that the altercation began when the man objected to the MLA cutting the queue at a polling booth in Guntur district on Monday morning. In a fit of anger, the MLA resorted to physical violence by slapping him. MLA Shivakumar is a member of the YSRCP, which is led by Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy.
The fourth phase of the general elections is underway, covering 96 constituencies across nine states and one Union Territory (UT).
In Andhra Pradesh, voting is being held simultaneously for 25 Lok Sabha seats and 175 assembly seats on Monday. The YSRCP government, led by Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, is currently in conflict with the alliance of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Telugu Desam Party.
