MP High Court orders FIR against BJP minister Vijay Shah for remarks on Army officer

New Delhi: The Madhya Pradesh High Court has ordered the registration of an FIR against state Tribal Affairs Minister Vijay Shah over his controversial remarks targeting Army officer Colonel Sophia Qureshi.

The directive was issued by a division bench of Justices Atul Sridharan and Anuradha Shukla, which instructed the police to file the FIR by Tuesday evening and inform the court accordingly. The next hearing of the case is scheduled for Thursday at 10:30 am.

Colonel Qureshi had shared details of ‘Operation Sindoor’ during a media briefing attended by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh Shah. Following this, Vijay Shah allegedly made derogatory remarks attempting to link Colonel Qureshi to terrorists, sparking widespread outrage.

Shah’s comments drew sharp criticism from opposition parties, with the Congress demanding his immediate dismissal from the state cabinet.

In response to the backlash, Shah said, “If anyone has been hurt by my statement, I am ready to apologise 10 times.” He added that he respects Colonel Qureshi more than his own sister.
